It's Electric
Industrial Controls and Automation
Service Description
This 13 week program program is tailored for teens in 9th grade and up who are interested in exploring electrical systems and industrial automation. It is led by an experienced automation engineer with extensive expertise across the wood, steel, and nuclear industries. The instructor brings real-world knowledge of electrical systems, industrial controls, and automation technologies, offering students a unique opportunity to learn foundational skills from a seasoned professional. Basic Electrical Wiring includes introduction to electricity and electrical circuits. Students will design and construct circuits to control common electrical devices. Electrical Controls expands the basic electrical wiring skills into the application of the most common industrial control devices. Students use real powered control devices and circuits wired up as real control circuits learning how these common devices operate, and how to find and fix problems. Programmable Logic Control (PLC) adds Industrial automation concepts to the previous electrical wiring and controls skills. Students learn to install, program, repair and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLC and apply it to electrical control applications. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Control expands industrial automation concepts to include the Allen-Bradley VFD, three-phase motor and motor control devices. Students will configure the VFD to meet machine performance requirements and interface with other electrical controls. *This program is experiential and not meant to train for employment.
